Day Trip to Washington DC

If you have the time, a day trip to the nation's capital Washington DC is something that we highly recommend. Can you see it all in one day? Maybe not, but this itinerary will get you as close to it as possible

Lets Go….

  • Walk, Uber or Lyft to Baltimore Pen Station

  • Take the Amtrak or MARC train to DC

  • Get off at Union Station stop

  • Day tours are available for purchase at Union Station and we recommend the BigBus - Red Loop. If you are ok with lots of walking then no need for the BIGBUS tour.

The Capital Building

Within 10 minutes walk from Union Station is the US Supreme Court followed by the Library of Congress. Directly across the street, you will find the US Capital Building. Fun Fact- The Capital building is often mistaken for the White House. We encourage you to walk around the Capital Building and you will find yourself in the exact area where the inauguration takes place every four years.

The African American museum

Located across from the Washington Monument, this culturally filled museum will blow your mind as well as take up all of your day. We have visited it 3 times, and have not seen it all. The design and layout of this museum also give you a sense of timelessness. As such, time flies by once inside. Tickets are required with same-day options available. Get yours here

Lincoln Memorial

Located almost at one end of the National Mall you will have a view of The Reflecting Pools, The World War ll Memorial, and all the way back up to The Capital Building. From the back of the Lincoln Memorial, you will overlook the Potomac River and over into the Arlington National Cemetery.

The White House

Home to the president of the USA this house is one of the must-see for first times and repeat visitors alike. It is also located in one of the best areas for food after a full day of walking. We highly recommend Black Finn as the place to grab a bite or drink after all this.
